Fiat Chrysler said Friday that it is recalling 323,361 recent-model vehicles in the U.S. to check wiring out of fear out that a defect could cause the engine to shut off while it is being driven.
The recall involves 2015 Chrysler 200 midsize sedans, Ram ProMaster City small vans, Jeep Renegade and 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees.
The issue is due to a necessary crimp in a wiring harness that may be insufficient. If the crimp wasn't done right, it could send a fault code that could cause the engine to shut off. A loss of power could lead to an accident, but Fiat Chrysler said it is unaware of any crashes due to the issue.
