BMW of North America is recalling 121,737 vehicles so dealers can fix a problem with the front driveshaft’s universal joint, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall covers 2011- to 2013-model year X5 xDrive35i, X5 xDrive50i, X5 M and X5 xDrive35d vehicles; 2011-2014 X6 xDrive35i, X6 xDrive50i and X6M vehicles; and 2011 X6 ActiveHybrid vehicles. Read more . . .

Nissan North America has announced a recall of select 2012 Nissan Versa vehicles. According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the airbag systems in some of those cars may not have been properly manufactured. Read More Read more . . .

The widow of a Vermont man who died after eating raw milk cheese tainted with Listeria has filed a lawsuit against manufacturer Vulto Creamery, whose contaminated product also led to a death in Connecticut.
Veronica Friedman, widow of Richard Friedman, alleges wrongful death and emotional and financial damage in her suit against the Walton, N.Y. creamery, according to her attorney at Seattle-based Marler Clark LLP, a law firm that represents victims of food-born illness outbreaks. Read more . . .

Volkswagen AG is set to plead guilty on Friday to three felony counts in the Justice Department's diesel emissions investigation, as the German automaker seeks to move past its cheating scandal.
As part of a plea agreement with U.S. prosecutors announced in January, the company agreed to sweeping reforms, new audits and oversight by an independent monitor for three years after it admitting to installing secret software in vehicles to enable it to beat emissions tests over a six-year period. The FDA recently issued a class I recall for the Zimmer Biomet Comprehensive Reverse Shoulder System Humeral Tray (Model 115340). According to a medical device recall issued in February by the FDA, the system has a higher fracture rate than stated in the labeling. A class I recall is the FDA’s most serious recall category and indicates a device may cause serious injuries or death. Read more . . .

More than 650 medical device recalls encompassing 180 million units were recalled in the second half of 2016, some of the highest numbers seen since the turn of the century, notes a new industry report by Stericycle ExpertSOLUTIONS.
Some of the mistakes were basic. “Parts issues” and “mislabeling” were deemed responsible for just over 50 percent of the total units recalled in the fourth quarter of the year. Read More Read more . . .
